If a relatively large area is to be evenly illuminated for smile shots with the ring light, the diffuser is a good choice. The special material distributes the light evenly and thus prevents an insufficient illumination radius or spot effect.
For anterior exposures, the diffuser results in softer low-reflection illumination.
Diffusers also help to additionally disperse the light in occlusal overview exposures. This gives the images a softer light. Also, small shadows created by the tooth row itself are softened.
